‘’The Name is Bond, James Bond. ‘’ More often than not we have heard this one-liner from the

famous James Bond film series. But IO Interactive after unveiling its new solo project titled ‘Project

007’ has surprised fans all over the globe. The James Bond Franchise in the video game world was

discontinued after 2012’s 007 The Legends was developed and published by Activision to mark the

50 th Anniversary of Dr. No. However, 007: The Legends was poorly received by fans world over and

Game developers have discontinued the publishing of James Bond games, ever since.

James Bond has had over three decades of appearances in video games such as Goldeneye.

Electronic Arts (best known for Need For Speed series) released titles such as Agent Under Fire in

2001 and the much acclaimed Nightfire in 2002. Then Activision took over and published the

critically acclaimed ‘Quantum of Solace’ in 2008; followed by Blood Stone in 2010. Then in 2012,

Activision published 007: The Legends which failed to hit the mark. However, Activision lost its

‘license to kill’ when it lost all the rights to create further Bond tiltles in the series. The James Bond

video game series has been in a dormant state since then.

The Danish video game developer IO Interactive have come up with a new project titled’ ‘Project

007’ which will feature the legendary James Bond in a brand new avatar in video games.IO

Interactive, the well known game developer behind the popular Hitman series, which portrayed a

globe-trotting bald assassin for hire named Agent 47, has embarked on a new project that will

feature the iconic MI6 spy James Bond in their future video game.

After the poorly received Bond Game 007:The Legends in 2012, no game publisher has ventured into

creating another James Bond title even though Kevin Bruner the president of Telltale Games had

expressed his desire to bring the iconic series back to life in an announcement in 2014.After a span

of 8 years, The Danish Studio IO Interactive will be collaborating with Major Film Production houses

such as Eon Productions and Metro-Goldwyn Myer (MGM). This is the first time that the big video-

game developer IO Interactive has stepped out of its Hitman Franchise and has attempted to step

into the shoes of the James Bond series of video games.

It is unconfirmed what the next James Bond will be like whether it will be an open-world game or a

sandbox title. It is also unclear who will be the voice actor for the next 007 game. In the past, iconic

Bond actors such as Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig featured as protagonists in the games. However

with the much-anticipated No Time To Die scheduled to release in 2021, Daniel Craig announced his

retirement from James Bond films. So its unclear what IO Interactive has in mind regarding the voice

actors for Project 007. For the record, IO Interactive is best known for its highly successful Hitman

series of video games which evolves around the life of another agent, Agent 47- A bald, cold-

blooded assassin-for-hire who takes on contracts to eliminate high profile VIP targets in an attempt

to make the world a better place. So Hitman fans can expect Project 007 to have a game play style

similar to the Hitman games.

IO Interactive has enlisted jobs and vacancies for aspiring game designers, programmers etc. to work

on their next game titled Project 007. The company has their well-established studios at Copenhagen

and at Malmo, Sweden.

Project 007 is in active development by IOI Interactive.
